Throughout our history, Compass Minerals has been committed to stewardship of the environment. Our company uses environmentally friendly processes that generate no hazardous by-products. Our solar operations at the Great Salt Lake near Ogden, Utah, for example, rely primarily on the sun’s energy to produce more than two million tons per year of salt, sulfate of potash fertilizer and other minerals. In addition, this site receives most of its electricity from environmentally favorable cogeneration technology on-site, and uses a bio-diesel fuel blend for its vehicles. Our sulfate of potash specialty fertilizer is all natural and organic-approved. Compass Minerals’ facilities meet all applicable environmental regulations, but we go even further. Our North American Salt Company subsidiary received a Pollution Prevention Award from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for voluntarily contributing our expertise and resources to help protect the drinking water of the city of Lyons, Kansas, one of the communities in which Compass Minerals’ employees live and work.
